Reporting and reducing corporate value chain emissions (also known as Scope 3 emissions) is of most immediate relevance to organisations committed to sustainability. Scope 3 reporting provides the opportunity for companies in key industries to multiply their carbon reduction impact by decarbonising their supply chains.
Scope 3 requires organisations to look for instances of carbon emissions outside of their direct physical footprint and quantify them through the value chain outside of their direct control. This includes embodied emissions within resources consumed by the organisation—paper used, waste produced, coffee consumed—and the emissions of any suppliers, which are especially important to organisations that produce physical products.
Due to the complexity and volume of data required, Scope 3 calculation and reporting must be addressed in a systematic way with the support of specialist software such as that provided by Orbits.
Waste management and resource recovery are two major environmental issues, which have direct impacts on the climate change, and are also . Global policy is increasingly driving waste reduction and improved recycling.
The idea that the world has infinite resources does not hold anymore. We must evolve from the current “take-make-waste” linear economic model to a circular “reduce-replace-reuse-recycle” model. Transforming what is today our waste into new resources is at the heart of circular economy.
The main theme of this report is hence to account for the carbon footprint during the recycling process of materials dismantled and removed from our client’s business premises.
Carbon reporting refers to the systematic and independent evaluation of greenhouse gases declarations from carbon emission control units involved in carbon emission trading, based on agreed verification criteria (e.g., ISO14064). Each control unit is required to submit quotas or voluntary emission reduction amounts certified to the competent authority within a specified timeframe.

Orbits Platform allows users to track and calculate carbon emissions from waste across the entire chain of recycling processes.
For the purpose of this report, Orbits limit the scope to track one particular batch of waste sent from the client. All activities are recorded and logged onto Orbits cloud through the whole stages of recycling process. Data including the characters of raw waste, the waste flow, the treatment centre, and the processing units are all extracted, processed and analysed in the Orbits system.
Materials are sorted into 13 categories in Shanghai Qingpu Sorting Center and then sent to 6 recycling centres for dedicated treatment.
